frequently Asked Questions

Skills Training – Can my child attend just the training sessions, or are league games required?

Players can choose to attend skills training only. During registration, you can select either one or two sessions per week.

Please note that skills training groups are aligned with our 5v5 league teams. A separate skills group is available for players who are not registered for league games.

Skills Training – What does my child need to wear or bring?
  • Labeled Water Bottle
  • Labeled Soccer Ball (optional)
  • Size 3: u6 & u8
  • Size 4: u10 – u12
  • Size 5: u14
  • If a u12 player is playing up in u14, bring a size 5 ball
  • Naperville Yard Blue Training Shirt
  • Soccer Shorts
  • Soccer Socks
  • Shin guards – mandatory
  • Rookies: shin guards go underneath the soccer sock

Skills Training – Does a parent have to stay for the duration of practice?

Kindergarten parents are encouraged to stay for the full training session, but you are not required to.

Parents of 1st–8th graders are not required to stay, but are always welcome.

If dropping off your child, please coordinate a pick-up spot with them. We recommend meeting outside the soccer field, as the parking lot can get busy.

Skills Training – How do I scheudle a make-up practice?

Email the Program Manager or speak with your child’s training coach.

Stars League – We are a mix of 2nd and 3rd graders. Which division should we plan in?

Teams with a mix of school grades must play in the division of their oldest player.

With a mix of 2nd & 3rd graders, the team must play in the u10 division.

Stars League- How long are the games? What’s the format? What’s the roster max?
  • Game length: 43 minutes, running clock, subs on the fly.
  • Format: 5v5 (4 field + 1 goalie)
  • Field dimensions: 17 x 30 yards
  • All restarts along the sidelines and endlines are pass-ins.
  • Roster size: 10 players + 2 coaches
  • Naperville Yard House teams will have the label “NY” before the team name.
  • Naperville Yard House teams will be coached by NY Coaches and/or volunteer parents

Stars League – Will you play with the offside rule?

No.

The build out line will be used for teams in the u6, u8, and u10 divisions.

The build out line is half-way between the top of the goal box and the half-line. For everyone’s convenience, we use the yellow lines on the field.

Stars League – Are teams permitted to warm-up before the game?

No. Teams have two minutes to get on and off the field. We encourage all teams to meet 10 minutes before the game to review their game plan.

DO NOT BRING SOCCER BALLS ON GAME DAY! NAPERVILLE YARD WILL PROVIDE THE GAME BALL!

Stars League – Does Naperville Yard permit club teams into the Recreational Soccer Program?

Yes. Naperville Yard welcomes school, club, Park District, and parent-coached teams. All teams must play on their scheduled game days—we do not offer reschedules for school functions or holidays, so unavailable teams will forfeit.

Stars League – How many referees are on the field? How old are the referees?

Naperville Yard assigns one referee per game. Referees aged 14–15 (school work permit required) officiate u6 and u8 divisions, while referees 16 and older may officiate all divisions.

Please note that if an official has a scheduling conflict or is absent, a Naperville Yard coach or the League Manager may step in to referee the game.

Is Acceleration Speed School still an option?
